Thoughts . . .

Having taken a very small part in a FB discussion of atheism I've been trying to codify my thoughts. Man is not perfect and cannot be perfected. He has not changed in any significant way. The same qualities and imperfections he was born with are with him today. We still see the same personalities that have existed since the beginning of man's time on earth, whether it began with the Troglodytes or Adam is not important. The only perfection that exists is Nature. Not Nature in its rapport with man but Nature, pure and simple. The seeming complexities of natural phenomena are due to man's attempts to harness her. She cannot and will not be harnessed. She may seem to be complying with humanity but she cannot work that way. Man can only divert nature not change her in any way. That there is a Master Plan at work in the entire universe seems to be an absolute; the alpha and the omega with all the fine gradations flowing smoothly on from the infinite to the infinite. Pure science, free from the human penchant to have to control all aspects of life, is man's need to appreciate the beauty and perfection of his world. He cannot change Nature but he can use it to improve his appreciation of his puny existence. Religion, when it is honest should be the same as Science; an attempt by man to understand his imperfectibility. When man's physical being transcends this worldly universe he may become part of Perfection. So, perhaps, God is Nature is Perfection and man only arrives when he leaves.
